Probably my favorite Macross Delta thing. It fixes a lot of the problems I could've had with the original show, and it takes its qualities and makes them even better.
This film has a lot of fanservice for macross fans, but that fanservice serves as an actual foundation instead of some jingling keys to keep you entertained.
It's charming, it's fun, it's operatic, it's sincerely emotional and it's a nice sendoff to Macross Delta.
(Also, the Macross Frontier short was a great little treat) -

It's funny how they keep referencing other Macross moments and characters over and over again but never dare mention Sheryl and Alto only to then pull off the most Macross Frontier: Sayonara no Tsubasa finale in the world.
Could have also just rewatched that film tho.
Eastern Europe is not safe from the destructive force of nuclear warheads and AI-generated music.

Was not expecting such a gut wrenching ending. This has totally changed my view on Macross Delta.

A pretty fun experiment showing how wellMacross Deltacould’ve worked if it had explored the character stuff set up in the TV show that, for some reason, only really gets addressed here.
I like what we’re doing with the cast but it’s still pretty awkward that so much of what should’ve been moving the audience from the get go is filed away under this addendum of sorts, and it certainly doesn’t help things that the first Deltamovie doesn’t have much interest in reframing the series to lead into this film. As an example, it’s kind of insane that the main conceit of Freyja and Hayate’s relationship doesn’t get explored until now and that it takes this long for Mirage to start…

I’ve never been much of a fan of “Macross Delta” - the series just never pushed the envelope in animation the way previous Macross series did and I found the music to be unmemorable and the story uninspired - flaws which some of this movie still shares.
That being said, the story arc of “Macross Delta” does close out in “Zettai Live!!!!!!” with spectacular and surprisingly gut wrenching fashion. I also loved the tie-ins to previous series, the return of one legendary blue haired ace pilot, and a very tantalizing but brief follow up to 1987’s “Flash Back 2012”.

Unlike the final Frontier movie, Zettai Live is an actual proper sequel to Macross Delta that continues the story of Macross as a whole. It's a risky move to bring back 40 year old elements of the franchise in a modern sequel but it actually works and I'm excited to see where Macross goes next. It's got all the fighter jet mechas, transforming space battleships, idol concerts, and dramatic romance you could want, and also fixes some of the problems I had with the Delta TV show.

I guess this alternate ending to delta makes more sense than the series' ending. (I'm glad they identify Lady M.) And some surprising characters from past series return. But the characters are under developed, especially the new villains.
I recommend rewatching the first episode of the series instead.

a good send off to the delta era as it also welcomes the franchise's 40th anniversary

Macross as a franchise releases movies seemingly just to hurt me and my mental well being… last time i cried this hard and intensely was evidently seeing the wings of goodbye in theatres and jesus christ this movie is so… why can’t we ever have a happening ending

i write this review a week and a half after having seen this film; i still can't think about it too hard without crying. i still can't listen to its score for too long without crying. Kawamori and Satelight were firing beyond all cylinders—any complaints i might offer feel like nitpicks in the face of the sheer emotional weight this movie brings to the table. The title itself, one that might seem innocuous on its face to someone who hasn't seen the film yet, is a perfect encapsulation of everything this movie strives to convey. Really, it delivers on the core message that this franchise itself has touted from the beginning. This film is Macross. Live every moment absolutely.
